Choosing Love This Holiday Season: A Story of Gratitude and Second Chances

The holidays are a time for connection, reflection, and celebration. They’re a chance to gather around tables filled with food, laughter, and shared memories. But more importantly, they’re a time to be surrounded by those who choose you, not out of obligation, but because they want to.
This sentiment resonates deeply with us, Leslie and Josh. Our journey has been anything but conventional, but it has shaped us into the people we are today and strengthened our appreciation for the love we now share.
For years, our lives were like separate highways running parallel but never quite meeting. We started out strong together, sharing dreams, building businesses, and creating a life we thought would last forever. But the weight of past wounds and unresolved pain eventually drove us apart. During those years apart, we experienced heartbreak, loss, and moments that tested our faith in love and ourselves.
Josh walked away from not just our relationship but also the businesses we built together. I, Leslie, returned to an empty apartment and a broken heart. I’ll never forget finding another woman’s name scrawled on our bathroom mirror, a cruel reminder of how shattered our lives had become. Despite everything, I held onto the belief that Josh could become the man I knew he was capable of being.
Josh’s life after our breakup was marked by a series of fleeting relationships. Yet, whenever life threw its toughest challenges at us, we somehow found our way back to one another for comfort and support. It was as if an invisible thread always kept us connected. Over time, and after much healing and self-reflection, we found our way back to each other for good.
Today, we don’t take our love or family for granted. This holiday season, as we sit down to enjoy a meal together, we’re not just thankful for the food or the decorations. We’re grateful for the second chance we’ve been given—a second chance to love, to rebuild, and to create a family grounded in forgiveness, respect, and unwavering support.
The holidays remind us that family isn’t always about blood or shared history. It’s about the people who choose you, even when it’s hard, even when it’s messy. It’s about showing up, being present, and building a space where love can thrive.
If you’re navigating your own relationship challenges this season, know that hope is always within reach. Whether you’re seeking to rebuild trust, heal old wounds, or strengthen your bond, the most important step is choosing each other—every single day.
